A reporter friend of mine invited me to the media preview of the Majestic Bar yesterday. I was planning to write a story about the space, but as usual, Michele, beat me to it. She actually got a sneak peek of the watering hole the night before just by being very charming! If you haven't realised by now, Michele is our writer du jour, I can't keep up with her! Grr.
I'm not the networking sort, it's a skill I have to learn and I think it's slowly improving (a drink or two doesn't hurt either), but I still got a chance to meet the architects behind the shophouse space. Simply listening about the blood and toil to put the place together was just fantastic, and hearing about the concept behind the bar and seeing it brought to life in a very well thought out manner made the whole experience far richer than just getting sloshed.
By the end of the night I was nattering with architect, Mark, about artwork in commercial spaces. It's such a great sign to see installation work blending in -- but not getting lost -- within a social space, and it sure beats the usual pseudo-cool, uber-designer or simply beng fittings that we're used to in bars.
When I got home, while mulling over our conversation, a little idea struck and the little gears in my head are turning. I'll let you know if anything comes out of it.
Oh, I also met Y. C. who's a professional anthropologist and consultant for Kennel. I never knew professional anthropologists existed in commercial firms! Shows how much I know.

Sounds like a fun night. Now my business plan is finally in I've been think of spaces and studios. I'd really like to work in a nice shared space and have somebody to remind me not too eat too many Tim Tams.
